One of the many strengths of our great country has always been its cultural diversity. Our differences in histories, traditions, and voices shape a richer, more complete America. Taking the time to learn and understand the many cultures that make up our melting pot helps us gain a broader perspective on the human experience, and a deeper sense of community with our neighbors. Black History Month is an opportunity to deepen one's understanding of the Black experience as an essential thread in the broader American story; it's influences on art, literature, innovation, tradition, and the zeitgeist of our culture.
Throughout the entire month of February, the Carroll County Public Library's Mount Airy Branch is honoring Black History Month with art, literature, DIY crafts, and collaborative activities. Visitors are encourages to stop by the library's large magazine reading area, where interactive activities and curated materials are available during regular library hours.
Rather than focusing on a specific program or display, the library's exhibit is designed to encourage a self-guided experience. Guests will be able to browse a thoughtfully selected collecting of works from Black authors, artists, and historical pieces. This structure encourages curiosity, where learning can be organic and engaging, rather than formal or instructional.
It is never a bad idea to engage with history. This celebration offers a thoughtful way to spend time immersed in the arts and humanities.
Guests are welcomed to drop by anytime during the month.
